According to the High Court’s ruling, SIM registration via biometric method is legal and valid. Re-registration would continue up to May 31, 2016. From 1st of June all unregistered sim will be deactivated. This is a must to all SIM card users in Bangladesh. Whoever fails to register his/her SIM card by this time frame will face an autometic SIM block and can’t further use it. State minister for post, telecommunications and information technology Tarana Halim warned that, the deadline will remain unchanged.
How to complete biometric SIM registration?
You will need:
- Your active SIM card
- National ID Card
- 1 copy passport size photo
- Your own fingerprint
- Fill up a form given by the registerer

Mobile operators are concerned of great loss
Since the biometric process has started, mobile operators are losing about 1 million users a month. Last 3 months 2.8 million active SIM card has been deactivated. Operators think that, after the deadline is over, about 3 to 4 crore SIMs will still not be registered and if government deactivates them all, they would lose a huge amount of business. As a concequence, goventment will recieve much less tax from this highly growing sector.
